Research suggests your inflamed gums possess bacteria that can release into your lungs and bloodstream. This has shown links to respiratory infections, fatigue, heart problems, diabetes, dementia, and premature birth to just name a few. Maintaining Healthy Gums
The first information to know are signs you have gum disease. They include bad taste or breath, loose permanent teeth, gums that easily bleed, swollen gums, and red or tender gums that have pulled away from your teeth. If you notice any of these contact our office immediately to treat them. The best ways to protect your gums begins with flossing. It removes the bacteria your toothbrush doesn't reach below the gum line. Quit smoking, it is strongly associated with gum disease.
Brush twice, per day for two minutes, using fluoride toothpaste and an electric toothbrush. Follow up with an alcohol-free, fluoride mouthwash. It will have an ADA seal of approval. Last, see our office for cleanings at a minimum every 6 months. We recommend every 3-4 months if you eat sugars, smoke or drink, experience dry mouth or show any signs of gum disease.
